Chairman’s Note

Harshavardhan Neotia Story Note

A home is not merely four walls; it is where life unfolds, where joy takes root, and where nature becomes an inseparable part of everyday living. It is a space that nurtures connections, reflects aspirations, and evolves with the people who inhabit it.

Every project we undertake is a conversation—with the land, with the people who will call it home, and with the climate that shapes it. Whether nestled in the mountains or tracing the curves of a river, our spaces do not impose on the landscape; they emerge from it, in harmony with their surroundings. This balance between architecture and nature defines our approach—creating environments that respect their setting while enhancing the lives of those who experience them.

For me, architecture is deeply personal. It is about listening—to the echoes of heritage, to the rhythms of nature, and to the aspirations of those who will walk through these spaces. It is about crafting not just buildings, but meaningful places where design, well-being, and sustainability come together seamlessly.

Over the years, our journey has expanded beyond homes to shape retail, commercial spaces, hospitality, healthcare, and education— all with the same belief: that every space should inspire, nurture, and enrich lives. With each project, we strive to create an architectural narrative that is soulful yet modern, aspirational yet deeply rooted.

Through this vision, Ambuja Neotia continues to shape places that are not just meant for living, working, or leisure, but for creating memories, fostering connections, and standing the test of time.

Warm regards,

Harshavardhan Neotia Signature

Our Journey

A legacy of 120 years

1890 - 1950

The Beginning

The Neotia family has been an integral part of the business scene in Kolkata for nearly 120 years. Originating from Rajasthan, their forefathers settled in the city some time in 1890s, being attracted to the opportunities for enterprise that the city offered. Since then, Kolkata has been their home and subsequent generations have been born and brought up here.

The Founders

In the 1950s, the patriarchs of Ambuja Neotia Group, Late Shri Suresh Neotia and Late Shri Vinod Neotia, alongside their brother Late Shri Bimal Kumar Poddar, embarked on their entrepreneurial journey with Radhakrishna Bimal Kumar (RKBK), a franchisee of Burma Shell, and expanded into various industries.

1970 - 1980

RKBK Expansion

Following Shri Bimal Kumar Poddar’s passing, Suresh Neotia and Vinod Neotia continued to grow Radhakrishna Bimal Kumar, venturing into cement, fertilizers, and petroleum products, achieving a gross turnover of ₹500 crores by the early 1990s.

During this period, the Neotia family also ventured into a textile mill in West Bengal and collieries that were later nationalised. They also founded Macmet India Limited, involved in engineering contracts and software solutions.

In the late 90’s, Modi Cement, which had become sick was taken over by GACL and Harshavardhan Neotia, son of Late Shri Vinod Neotia and the only male heir of the family, was appointed as MD of the newly formed “Ambuja Cement Eastern Limited”. Continuing the family tradition of excellence, he was able to execute a remarkable turnaround transforming the erstwhile sick company into one of the most profitable and efficient cement manufacturers in the country.
